The 2023 Auction had all twelve of us gathering to pick players in person. While there weren't any rule changes this season, the term "Peanut Butter Whiskey" has entered the Scandalous League lexicon and may have even spawned a new tradition that I'm sure Craig DiBella will surely take credit for. Craig had $105 to spend and needed to add six starters to round out his team. I think his team's outlook was well-determined before he fell into the barrel of xxx.

Top 5 Auction Prices:

$140- Patrick Mahomes (Jeff)

$132 - Joe Burrow (Mike L.)

$131 - Jalen Hurts (Eric)

$115 - Justin Jefferson (Matt L.)

Toilet Bowl Loser: Polk High Panthers (Craig).

Fantasy Bowl: Frozen Tundra (Eric) defeated Just Call Me Dushi (Matt L.), 127.0 - 96.0.

The Fantasy Bowl between Just Call Me Dushi and the Frozen Tundra was a toss-up through the first 12 games of the week leading up to the 4 PM and late games. At that point, both teams had just four players left to play. Geno Smith and Javonte Williams both let Low down in the big moment. For the Frozen Tundra, Isiah Pacheco stepped up and scored 23.5 points. As usual, Austin Ekeler's corpse was terrible, and Pat Freiermuth chipped in with a few points. The stage was set for the 8:15 game. Just Call Me Dushi had Justin Jefferson and the Green Bay Defense. The Frozen Tundra had Jayden Reed and a 24.5-point lead. We've all seen Justin Jefferson go for more than 20 pts seven times in the last two years, so the game was in his hands. Luckily for the Frozen Tundra, the Vikings were having some QB issues - first starting a rookie QB and then replacing him later when he wasn't performing well. Jayden Reed's 2 TDs led Eric and the Frozen Tundra to a 31-point victory on New Year's Eve night.

2023 was a very competitive season for the Scandalous League. After 12 weeks, eight teams were still mathematically eligible for the playoffs. Going into the final regular season week, seven teams had a shot at either the division or a wild card berth. Also interesting was Dave Nassiff starting 7-0, going 1-5 in the middle, and finishing 2-0 when it mattered to win his division. Jeff Nassiff fought back from an 0-3 start to fall one win short of the playoffs. Mike Wakeley was 4-5 and looking for "keepers" at the trade deadline, but battled back to win five of his last six games to capture the Wild Card. Paul also made the most of his season - even though he was a bottom-three scorer, he was still in playoff contention until the late afternoon of the final regular season week.

In other league action, Dave Nassiff smashed Mike Wakeley 136.0 - 102.0 in the 3rd Place game. In the Toilet Bowl, Chris Shea beat Craig DiBella 105.0 - 90.5. The bar tally is up to $500 overall if we can remember to spend it.

The Frozen Tundra entered the season with just three players on their roster and $469 left to spend. Among their keepers, James Cook and Calvin Ridley were starters. At the auction, they invested heavily in Jalen Hurts and distributed the remaining funds among players such as Aaron Jones, James Conner, Alvin Kamara, Keenan Allen, Terry McLaurin, DJ Moore, Christian Watson, and Dallas Goedert. Rookies Jayden Reed and Will Levis were anticipated to play crucial roles in the team's success in the second half of the season. After three weeks, the team was dissatisfied with Dallas Goedert's performance and DJ Moore's struggles in the Chicago offense. This led to a Week 4 trade that sent DJ Moore and Dallas Goedert to Dave Nassiff for Mark Andrews and Jakobi Meyers. Despite DJ Moore having a stellar game immediately after the trade, helping drop the Frozen Tundra to a 2-3 record, the team ultimately won the league, even with Mark Andrews suffering a season-ending injury in Week 11. With a 6-3 record and a four-game winning streak at the trade deadline, the team sought a boost. Eric made significant moves, acquiring Justin Fields, Isiah Pacheco, Cooper Kupp, Christian Kirk, Austin Ekeler, and Deshaun Watson. This resulted in a major turnover in the starting lineup, with Russell Wilson, Aaron Jones, Christian Watson, Terry McLaurin, and Calvin Ridley all being traded away. The good times were short-lived, as Deshaun Watson and Christian Kirk were lost for the year due to injury. The team faced challenges in the Tight End position after Mark Andrews' injury, unable to find a high-scoring replacement on the waiver wire. Not bidding enough for Isaiah Likeley proved to be a crucial miss. By Week 13, the Frozen Tundra were 7-6, needing to win their final two games to make the playoffs. They narrowly won Week 14, thanks to Jayden Reed's 16 points on Monday night, and secured the division in Week 15 with James Cook's 36 points against Paul. Despite a slow start in the first round of the playoffs, Eric scored 91.5 points and benefited from Dave Nassiff's team only scoring 61 points.

This marked Eric's 3rd Scandalous League Football Title and 10th overall Scandalous League Championship.
